Frequently Asked Questions

These are questions I've been asked about the PM3055.
I've heard that there are special probes for this scope that allow it to auto-adjust some settings during operation. My question is, do you use these probes and if yes, can you tell me what the exact part number of these probes is?
I'm just using regular off-the-shelf Welleman probes. The auto-adjust feature works no matter which probe is attached. I don't think there is anything gained by using special probes.
What is the 'remote control' connector on the back for?
It gives access to the internal I2C bus of the instrument. It also allows you to externally control the auto set button by a single signal. Here's the pin-out:
1SDA
2+5V
3SCL
4GND
5GND
6+5V
7FOOTN: Remote AUTO SET. Command line to initiate AUTO SET function.
8GND
9REMRQN: REMote ReQuest Not. Command line to initate transfer to/from oscilloscope.
Where can I get a manual?
I do not know, but I guess that you could get it as a spare part from your local Philips representative. Expect to pay a lot for it. I can scan individual pages for you if you ask me.
How much is it worth?
I wouldn't pay more than EUR 250 to 300 for one if the condition is good.
Where can I find more information on the unit (e.g. repair information)?
There is not much on the Internet (e.g. the search for "PM3055" on Google! doesn't give much), so I guess the only way you can find out more is by buying maintenance and repair and users manuals from Philips. Or ask me, I haven't actually tried repairing my scope, but I do have the maintenance manaual.
